Sultan School District Families and Community Members,

I want to thank everyone who took the opportunity to vote. Our current ballot counts show our 2022 Proposition 1 (Educational Programs & Operations) is passing with 53.64% and Proposition 2 (Capital Levy) is passing with 53.12%. This is preliminary and if it holds it will have a very positive impact on the Sultan School District and our students; thank you for casting your votes! If the current counts for Proposition 1 and Proposition 2 hold, these measures will allow for us to continue to provide critical programming and services for our students as well as ensure that:

1. Our Transportation department will be able to service buses safely and effectively for years to come;
2. Our Community Facility Advisory Committee (CFAC) Infrastructure priorities will be completed; and
3. Our Technology department will continue its efforts with instructional technology for students and staff and to keep our students competitive.

I want to especially thank the Sky Valley Citizens for Schools and our community and staff volunteers who worked tirelessly over the last few months to share the importance of these measures and provide information to voters. I want to also thank those community members who reached out to get involved, learn about the measures, and participate in constructive conversations. In the coming weeks, whether the initial levy results hold or not, it is our plan to put out a survey to better understand the items that are of great interest and concern to you within the Sultan School District. Over the course of the levy presentations, there were many comments and questions about our budget, preventative maintenance, and levy history.  Regardless of how you voted, you are a valued member of our community and we want to create ongoing opportunities for you to engage with staff or the school board to answer questions or address concerns you may have.

Looking ahead, it is critical that we continue to work together to improve the educational experience for our students. Your voice is important, and I would like to invite all parents and community members to attend our monthly community conversations at Kiss the Sky Books located at 401 Main St in Sultan. The next one will be held on Thursday, May 12th at 6:00 pm with myself and two Board members, Ed Husmann and Gigi Gouldner. The next Board meetings will be held on Monday, May 9th and Tuesday, May 24th (moved from Monday due to a scheduling conflict) at 7:00 pm in the SES Library located at 501 Date Street in Sultan. The Board meetings will also be broadcast online if you are unable to attend in person. If those opportunities don’t work for your schedule then please contact me to set up a time that works for you to meet. I look forward to engaging in productive conversations about how we can improve the Sultan School District.

Thank you for supporting the Sultan School District. As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.
